Abstract:

 

This paper examines the advantage of bilingual situation and its challenges and the prevalent myths held about language use, identity, and bilingual speakers. English or French have been seen by the monolingual English/French speakers as the only language able to create and enforce rules that favor them as they construct their identity as “American/British or France. Through the process of homogeneism, the linguistic diversity about two or more languages shall be harnessed in favor of our identity as Africans in our own image. Thus, there is need we develop all over Africa some languages (lingual Franca) that would serve us better and portray our identity as Africans.
