Abstract

The book MaganJari Ce ( Wisdom is An Asset) is the master piece of Abubakar Imam. Although it is a commissioned work, and the materials used to build the stories differ from across different continents of the globe, yet the author really made a good attempt in getting his audience’s total attention by giving it a vivid picture of his own environment as if the entire setting of the stories and the presentation of the material culture on the stories used are of Hausa origin. The aim of this paper is to have a look at the proverbs used by the author in the eighty-four stories contained in the three volumes. In these eighty-four stories, Imam used some two hundred and four proverbs to title some of the stories and also used some others through the speeches of some of the characters. This paper intends to have a close look at a few of these proverbs as a case study with a view to highlighting the role writers play in portraying their identity through the use of cultural heritage especially the proverbs..
